Security Architecture transformation

Secure architecture transformation is Cube Cyber's design-and-build service for organisations whose security architecture needs structural change, not point fixes, re-segmenting a flat network, rebuilding identity, establishing cloud foundations or separating IT from OT, delivered as a staged program alongside your teams. It is the build phase most consultancies leave to someone else, and it is where designs either become controls or stay documents.

KEY CHALLENGES

Transformation engagements begin where advice alone has run out:

1

A strategy without an execution partner

A strategy without an execution partner, the roadmap exists, board funding was approved, and eighteen months later the architecture on the ground has barely moved, because the firm that wrote the strategy does not build, and the teams running daily operations cannot absorb a transformation on top.

2

Change that cannot stop the business

Change that cannot stop the business, the environment carries systems that cannot tolerate outages, clinical, financial, industrial, so transformation has to move in stages that respect uptime, change windows and the operational calendar, discipline most programs underestimate.

3

Technical debt with compounding interest

Technical debt with compounding interest, legacy platforms, flat networks and inherited identity sprawl that every new project builds on top of, making each year of delay more expensive than the last.

WHEN TO ENGAGE

Transformation is the right service when the findings are structural, when a review, an audit or an incident has shown that the environment's design, not its tuning, is the problem. Typical entry points are a funded roadmap that needs a delivery partner, a post-incident rebuild that has to produce something better than what was breached, and regulatory or insurance pressure that point fixes can no longer satisfy. If the same findings have appeared in three consecutive assessments, the message is structural.

CORE CAPABILITIES

Core capabilities & deliverables

Programme design and staging

Programme design and staging

Transformation broken into stages that each deliver standalone risk reduction, sequenced by attack-path priority and operational constraint, so value lands early and the program survives budget cycles.

Network and segmentation transformation

Network and segmentation transformation

Re-architecting flat or aging networks into segmented, containment-focused designs, delivered progressively with dependency mapping, monitor-mode validation and staged enforcement, including in environments running live clinical and industrial systems.

Identity transformation

Identity transformation

Rebuilding identity as the control plane, directory rationalisation, privileged access overhaul, conditional access and the retirement of standing privilege, the change that pays off across every other control.

Cloud foundation builds

Cloud foundation builds

Landing zones, guardrails and migration security patterns established while workloads move, so cloud adoption arrives with architecture rather than acquiring it retrospectively.

IT/OT separation programs

IT/OT separation programs

Staged separation of corporate and operational networks aligned to IEC 62443, planned with engineering and operations around maintenance windows, with more than 10 years' OT experience shaping what is realistic.

Embedded delivery and knowledge transfer

Embedded delivery and knowledge transfer

Our architects and engineers work inside your change process, with your teams, deliberately transferring capability as the program runs, so the organisation that finishes the transformation can operate what it built.

METHODOLOGY AND FRAMEWORKS

Transformation runs as a program, but each stage follows the same four-step discipline:

1

Baseline

Confirm current state for the stage in scope, dependencies, constraints and success measures, no stage begins on assumptions.

2

Design and plan

Detailed design and implementation planning with the teams who own the systems, sequenced around change windows, freeze periods and operational calendars.

3

Implement and validate

Build, migrate and cut over with security controls validated as they land, and rollback positions maintained, progress is only progress if it holds under load.

4

Handover and harden

Documentation, runbooks and operational handover for the stage, plus the review that feeds lessons into the next one.

Programmes align to the ASD Essential Eight and ISM, NIST Cybersecurity Framework, ISO 27001 control objectives and IEC 62443 for operational environments, and integrate with our Security Testing practice for independent validation and our Managed Cybersecurity practice where ongoing operation follows the build.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

A review tells you where you are and designs where you should be; transformation gets you there. Most transformation programs begin with a review, ours or one you already have, and convert its roadmap into staged, delivered change. If you arrive with a credible design from elsewhere, we can build to it.

It depends entirely on scope, a focused identity overhaul lands in months; a full network re-segmentation across multiple sites is staged over a year or more. What we hold constant is that every stage delivers standalone risk reduction, so the program is never all cost now, all value later. straight into planning.

That constraint is the discipline of the whole service. Stages are sequenced around change windows and operational calendars, changes run in monitor mode before enforcement, rollback positions are maintained, and in OT and clinical environments we plan with the engineers who own uptime. Transformation that causes an outage has failed at its own job.

With them, deliberately. Your teams know the environment and will operate the result; we bring the architecture, the delivery experience and the additional hands a transformation demands. Knowledge transfer is designed into the program, the goal is that you need us less at the end than at the start.

Programmes are scoped and priced by stage, after the baseline is confirmed, rather than as a single fixed figure, because honest pricing requires knowing the environment. The staging also means investment can follow value: each stage's outcome informs the decision to proceed, and early stages are typically chosen for fast, visible risk reduction.

Usually for reasons that are avoidable the second time: staging that delivered no early value, designs made without the people who run the systems, and no owner for the change process itself. Our programs are structured against exactly those failure modes, standalone value per stage, operational teams inside the design loop, and delivery embedded in your change management rather than parallel to it.
