Cloud & infrastructure security

Cube Cyber designs and builds secure cloud and infrastructure architecture for Australian organisations, landing zones, identity and access design, hybrid connectivity and hardened platform baselines across cloud and on-premises environments. It suits organisations moving to cloud faster than their security design has kept up, and those whose infrastructure security has accumulated as exceptions rather than architecture.

KEY CHALLENGES

Cloud and infrastructure engagements start from familiar territory:

1

Cloud grew faster than governance

Cloud grew faster than governance, workloads landed platform by platform, project by project, each with its own identity model, network design and logging decisions, and now nobody can state the security baseline, because there isn't one, there are forty.

2

Identity is the new perimeter

Identity is the new perimeter and it is porous, over-permissioned accounts, standing administrative access, service principals nobody owns and conditional access half-configured, the conditions most modern intrusions rely on, they log in rather than break in.

3

Half the estate is in cloud

Hybrid reality, half the estate is in cloud, half on premises, and the connective tissue between them, federation, networking, management tooling, was built for convenience under project pressure and never revisited as an attack surface.

WHEN TO ENGAGE

The strongest engagement points are before a major migration, when the landing-zone decisions are still cheap to make well, after rapid cloud growth, when the exceptions need consolidating into an architecture, and ahead of certification or regulatory review, when the environment must be evidenced as well as secured. If a cloud posture tool has just handed you two thousand findings and no way to sequence them, that is also us.

CORE CAPABILITIES

Core capabilities & deliverables

Cloud security architecture and landing zones

Cloud security architecture and landing zones

Secure-by-design cloud foundations, identity, network topology, policy guardrails, logging and encryption baselines, so every workload inherits security rather than reinventing it. Decisions made once, correctly, instead of remediated per workload later.

Identity and access architecture

Identity and access architecture

Design of authentication, authorisation and privileged access across cloud and on-premises, least privilege, just-in-time administrative access, conditional access and the removal of standing privilege, aligned to ASD Essential Eight maturity targets.

Cloud posture assessment and remediation

Cloud posture assessment and remediation

Assessment of existing cloud environments against platform benchmarks and your obligations, followed by prioritised remediation, not a thousand-line report, a sequenced plan that distinguishes the exposures that matter from the noise.

Hybrid and network security architecture

Hybrid and network security architecture

Secure connectivity between cloud, data centre and sites, private connectivity, segmentation across the hybrid boundary and controlled internet egress, designed so the hybrid joins are not the weakest link.

Platform hardening and baselines

Platform hardening and baselines

Hardened configuration baselines for the infrastructure that carries everything else, virtualisation, server estates, containers and the management planes that attackers prize most, maintained as code where the environment supports it.

Data protection architecture

Data protection architecture

Encryption, key management and data-flow design across cloud services, aligned to Australian data residency expectations, and to the onshore commitments our own services carry.

METHODOLOGY AND FRAMEWORKS

Engagements follow the same four-stage path as all Cube Cyber architecture work:

1

Discover

Establish what exists across cloud and on-premises, subscriptions, identities, workloads, connectivity, including the shadow deployments and forgotten trial tenancies.

2

Assess and design

Evaluate against platform security benchmarks, sector threats and your obligations, then design the target architecture and guardrails with your platform teams.

3

Build

Implement landing zones, identity architecture, guardrails and hardened baselines alongside your engineers, delivered as code where possible so the security is repeatable.

4

Validate and operate

Verify controls behave as designed, our Security Testing practice can independently confirm, and hand over the operating model, or connect the environment to our Managed Cybersecurity practice for ongoing posture management.

Work aligns to cloud platform security benchmarks and well-architected guidance, the ASD Essential Eight and ISM, NIST Cybersecurity Framework and ISO 27001 control objectives. We hold Microsoft Security accreditations and partnerships across the platforms our clients run, and remain vendor-agnostic in design.

FAQS

Frequently asked questions

No, most of our cloud work is retrofit rather than greenfield. A posture assessment establishes what exists, the highest-risk exposures are closed first, identity, public access, logging, and the landing-zone disciplines are introduced so new workloads inherit security even while older ones are remediated in sequence.

The major platforms our clients run, and the more common pattern, several at once plus a data centre. The security principles, identity-first design, guardrails, baseline logging, segmentation, carry across platforms; the implementation detail differs, and we work at both levels.

Both, split by the shared responsibility model: the provider secures the platform, you secure what you configure and deploy on it, identities, permissions, network exposure, data and workloads. Nearly every cloud breach that makes the news sits on the customer side of that line, which is exactly the side architecture addresses.

Yes. We design for Australian data residency where obligations require it, region selection, service scoping, encryption and key management, and are direct about where a given cloud service cannot meet the requirement. Cube Cyber's own services keep client data onshore in Australia, so we hold ourselves to the same expectations.

Architecture and operations reinforce each other. Environments we design can be monitored by our 24/7 hybrid SOC with continuous cloud posture management, and the designers stay available to the operators, so drift is caught and corrected rather than discovered in next year's assessment.

Done properly, it does the opposite. Landing zones and guardrails mean teams inherit approved patterns instead of waiting on security review for every deployment, and policy as code turns security from a meeting into a merge check. The friction developers resent comes from ambiguity and rework; architecture removes both.
