ISO 27001 certification
Cube Cyber takes Australian organisations from no management system, or a struggling one, to ISO 27001 certification: gap assessment, ISMS design and build, internal audit and support through the certification audit itself. Our practitioners hold ISO 27001 Lead Auditor certification, and Cube Cyber is itself ISO 27001 certified, we run the same management system we build for clients.
Book An ISO 27001 DiscussionISO 27001 programs usually begin under one of these pressures:
The economics are simplest when certification is tied to revenue: if enterprise deals or tenders require ISO 27001, the program typically pays for itself with the first contract it unlocks. Beyond sales, the strongest triggers are regulator and board expectations for demonstrable governance, insurer questionnaires that keep getting harder, and growth, an organisation that has doubled headcount is usually running on security practices designed for half its size. Starting before the deadline pressure arrives is what keeps the timeline sane.
Core capabilities & deliverables
Gap assessment
A clear-eyed assessment of your current state against ISO 27001, what exists, what is missing and what exists on paper only, with a costed, sequenced plan to certification. This is where honest timelines come from.
ISMS design and build
An information security management system built around how your organisation already works, scope, risk assessment, Statement of Applicability, policies and controls, so the system describes reality rather than aspiration. Systems built this way survive audits and daily operations alike.
Risk assessment and treatment
A risk process your leadership can actually use, threats and impacts expressed in business terms, treatment decisions documented with owners and dates, and a register that informs decisions rather than decorating them.
Control implementation support
Hands-on help closing the gaps the assessment finds, from access control and logging to supplier security, drawing on our architecture, testing and managed security practices where technical depth is needed. Advice and implementation from the same firm.
Internal audit and management review
Independent internal audit delivered by Lead Auditor certified practitioners, and management reviews structured so leadership engagement is genuine, both are certification requirements, and both are more useful than most organisations expect.
Certification audit support
Preparation and support through Stage 1 and Stage 2 external audits, including auditor liaison, evidence readiness and remediation of findings, then a maintenance rhythm for surveillance audits so year two is easier than year one.
Certification programs follow four stages:
Assess
Gap assessment against the standard, scoping decisions, which parts of the business, which systems, and the certification timeline set by evidence realities.
Build
ISMS development, risk assessment, policies, controls and the Statement of Applicability, built with your team so ownership lands inside the organisation.
Operate and evidence
The system runs and generates evidence, an auditor needs to see the ISMS operating, not just documented, with internal audit and management review completing the cycle.
Certify and maintain
Support through the certification audit, then an ongoing rhythm of internal audit, review and improvement that keeps surveillance audits uneventful.
We work with the current version of ISO/IEC 27001 and its Annex A controls, and design programs so evidence serves adjacent obligations, the ASD Essential Eight, APRA expectations and SOCI requirements, rather than duplicating effort. Where AI governance is in scope, the ISMS integrates with ISO 42001 under the same management-system discipline.
Frequently asked questions
For most organisations, six to twelve months from kick-off to certification audit, depending on size, current level of cybersecurity maturity, complexity and how much of the management system already exists. The timeline is set by evidence, an auditor needs to see the system operating over time, which is why starting early beats starting perfectly.
Two budgets: our program support, scoped after the gap assessment, and the certification body's audit fees, which you pay directly and which scale with organisation size and scope. We are transparent about both early, and scoping the ISMS sensibly, covering what matters rather than everything imaginable, is the single biggest cost lever.
Organisations certainly self-deliver, usually when someone internal has run an ISMS before and has the time protected to do it again. The honest trade-off is elapsed time and rework: first attempts built from templates commonly stall at internal audit or Stage 1. Our involvement scales to what you need, from coaching an internal lead to running the program.
That depends entirely on how the ISMS is built, which is why we build them from how the organisation actually operates. Done properly, certification forces the disciplines that matter, knowing your assets and risks, controlling access, managing suppliers, responding to incidents, and gives leadership visibility it did not have. Done as a template exercise, it is paperwork, and auditors are increasingly good at telling the difference.
Certified means an accredited certification body has audited your ISMS and issued a certificate, the thing customers and tenders can verify. Compliant or aligned means you follow the standard without external audit. Self-assessed alignment is a reasonable staging post, but when a contract says ISO 27001, it almost always means the certificate.
Yes, recovery engagements are common. We reassess the system against how the business has changed, rebuild the parts that drifted, and re-establish the operating rhythm before the recertification audit, usually with less effort than the original certification, because the bones are there.
